We need food – it’s our fuel and without it we would die. However, as time went by and we streamlined the process, prices dropped. Suddently we could buy food in abdundance and we did. Today we stuff ourself, become obese, and at the same time manages to throw away more food than ever. Amazing..
We don’t see food as fuel. We don’t eat to live. We live to eat.
This has to change and the change begin at home, before you visit the store. Go through your home and check what you already have. Don’t end up in the store and buy an extre something “just in case” you don’t have it.
When I was a kid it wasn’t unusual to have four or five opened ice cream packages in the fridge because we ended up buying a new one every time we decided to have ice cream “just in case” we didn’t have any at home. Obviously, this made us eat more ice cream just because it was available. Whenever someone got cravings they opened the fridge and found a ton of ice cream.
You can change this behavior by planning your meals and writing a shopping list before you go to the store. Instead of buying chocolate due to your cravings and their wise positioning, you end up taking rational decisions on a full stomach. It’s so much easier to eat healthy when you know exactly what you’re supposed to buy and don’t have to make up your mind every time you see something tasty.
Sure, it might be your parents or partner who does the shopping but then it’s time for you to take the first step and start participating. I’m sure they’ll be thrilled if you ask to help them.
Now, head over to the recipies and start planning.
