We have a skewed view on hunger nowadays. In the past – people ate when they became hungry. Nowadays it’s, wrongly, recommended to eat 6 meals a day and even eat before you get hungry to avoid the horror of being hungry.
Huh? Yeah, for some reason hunger seems to be the worst thing that can happen to us so we fight it however we can. I’m not a big fan on speculating about what we’re built for but I’m certain we’re not built to eat 24/7.
Arnold Schwarzenegger said the following about his comfort zone:
“The only way to be a champion is by going through these forced reps and the torture and pain. That’s why I call it the torture routine. Because its like forced torture. Torturing my body. What helps me is to think of this pain as pleasure. Pain makes me grow. Growing is what I want. Therefore for me, pain is pleasure. And so when I experience pain I’m in heaven. It’s great.”
I’m not saying you should starve yourself. I’m saying that we need to accept hunger and not be afraid of it. If you’d do anything to avoid feeling hungry you’ll be running around with food in your mouth around the clock.
Remember – every meal increases the chance of eating more calories.
