A few years back I made an income writing about the latest TV series and as a result I ended up spending hours every day watching the latest episodes. Fortunately, I quickly realized that this wasn’t how I wanted to spend my youth and I changed path.
What I learned was that there’s a big difference between enjoying a show and really looking forward to it. I’m sure you’ve experienced the same thing. Whenever you are lying sick in your bed, skimming the channels, you don’t mind watching an episode of Two and a Half Men, Top Model or Project Runway. But you’d never mark them in the calendar.
To avoid following a ton of TV series I use this as a rule and simply ask myself:
Do I really look forward to the next episode?
Once is an accident. Twice is coincidence. Three times is confirmation. If I get a negative answer the third time I stop following the show. It’s not always easy; We want to know how it ends for the characters. However, if you’re not looking forward to new episodes; then you’re just wasting your time and the only logic thing is to stop watching the show.
Personally I’m following 18 shows at the moment. It might sound like a lot but thanks to different schedules it only result in 1–3 episodes a week. Since I watch them online I’m also able to avoid the commercials and can watch a 60 minutes show, such as House, in only 42 minutes.
Which TV series are you following and which ones are you really looking forward to?
