I’m a big fan of water and for good reasons. I’ve previously mentioned how you can lose weight just by changing beverage and I showed you an interesting study confirming my view. However, there is yet another reason to go all water. Studies has shown that it increases your metabolism! I.e. you’ll lose weight by drinking more water…
Don’t expect to much though since the effect is modest, at best.
Researchers in Germany tracked calorie expenditure among 14 men and women who were both healthy and not overweight. Within ten minutes of drinking about 5 dl of water, the subjects’ metabolisms increased by about 30%, reaching a maximum after 30-40 minutes.
30% might sound a lot but for a 68 kg person it’s an increase of only 20 calories. If you consume 1.5 liters of water a day you’ll burn an extra 17400 calories a year. That’s roughly equal to 2.5 kg a year.
You should remember that this is just another bonus. Water is great for your body and the main benefit for your weight loss comes from replacing your regular juice, soda, etc. with water and thereby reducing the calories you consume. Losing and additional 2.5 kg for no work is just an awesome bonus.
Make the change today and drink water!
